Veterans Breakfast

This is an event I created with one of my closest friends. He and I began planning it in January of 2015 and held the breakfast on April 16th, 2015 with the help of Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation (DCVMF). It was held to truly honor and thank those who served in the Vietnam War, that didn't get thanked properly.

The project began with me wanting to do something for those protecting us. At this point I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I started throwing an idea around to design and create a memorial for the students at Castle View going into the military. Because of security reasons though, this couldn't happen. At this time, one of my teachers approached me about a foundation wanting to work with Mosaic students. We began planning a breakfast for veterans with them and shaping how we wanted the event to look. Eventually, my friend came up with the idea to do a Welcome Home breakfast for the Vietnam vets that didn't get the support they should have. The planning and all the work began and lead up to our 1st annual veterans breakfast. It was a success that had many guest speakers, certificates passed to all veterans in attendance, and later, thank you letters sent out. All of this lead to beautiful friendships, amazing stories being told, and them sharing their stories with us. Then allowing for students to create something to honor the veteran they were paired with. We're hoping this becomes a "Legacy Project" and continues even after we finish high school.

2015 "Welcome Home" Breakfast

This was our first breakfast held at The Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, with the help of Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation. I have to say, it was a great success and has been one of my favorite projects. I took a lot of work and planning though. We also ran into quite a few bumps since we were fourteen and fifteenth when we created this. We had many people not willing to work with us because of our age but we always found someone up for helping us. Please browse through the pictures below to see how it turned out!

2016 Veterans Breakfast

This was our second breakfast and it was quite different from our first. This one, we worked with different contact people within Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation and were given much more freedom to explore. We began our planning process by changing the location to Castle View High School and adding in some other things. We asked some non-profits to attend and set up a booth. We even had some speak, explain their foundation, and talk about the benefits for veterans. We finished it off by getting some pictures and speaking to many of our attendees. I've included all of our pictures below for viewing!
