Project Citizen

This was a project I did with a few other students in Mosaic and we all loved it! Project Citizen is run by The Civic Canopy, a nonprofit in Denver, whose goal is to get kids and teens involved in their community and be active members in elections and their government when they're older. To begin our project, we wrote down   20 - 25 different groups that we felt are underserved/marginalized. Then we began to narrow it down and eventually chose to focus on teen addiction/drug use in Douglas County. This lead us to begin researching out topic and reaching out to people in our community. We interviewed anyone from the Director of Prevention at the Douglas County School District to the Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator for Tri-County Health to gather information and statistics. After completing that and creating a presentation we had the chance to present in front of students from other school and law/government officials. From there we had a panel of judges who asked questions and then rated our presentations.
