My Work:

About Me

Who We Are

This is easy: we're just students that want to do what we love. "Regular" high school is too confined and gives us the work we have to do. Mosaic students create what they want to learn. Through this process, we learn so much more than what we expect and retain most, if not all, of the information we learned.

The other half of our collective are our teachers. They're the reason Mosaic exists and still runs. today. The difference with our teachers though is that you know they care. They're willing to help you reach your goal, even if it seems impossible. The won't tell you no. Even if you don't know how to reach it, they will help you figure it out.

What We Do

The Mosaic Collective does real life work. The goal of our academy is to connect with our community and work to incorporate ourselves into it more. We want to make a difference and to improve our community for the better. This is done through our work. Students throughout the academy are all working on something way different than anybody else but it's all based on their interests.

If you walked into the space right now, you'd find a variety of topics being discussed and worked out. This is huge in our space. Not one teacher will tell you no when you want to do something. Mosaic is a creative place meant to be open-minded and free. And that's the main reason I joined.

What We Believe

In order for a student to thrive in Mosaic, they have to be self-motivated. If nothing else, they have to have that. Coming into it they might not know what they’re passionate about or what they want to do, but that’s part of why the teachers are here. Many think we do nothing but play games all day, but it’s the exact opposite. In a lot of ways Mosaic is, in a sense, harder because we don’t take a test to see what we learned. We have to prove it with actual work we’ve done. The thing is though, Mosaic students are passionate about what they do and should love it. That being said, you’ll find that if you sit a kid down and just talk to them you’ll see that they’ve actual retained that knowledge. It isn’t something they forget right after they were taught it. Another thing that is key to being successful is passion. The reason I love Mosaic so much is because I can do what I love to do and have an actual affect on the world. Everything I’ve done so far has taught me a million things more than a typical high school experience. I have real life experience that will help me further along in life and give me an advantage over other people my age. You’ll also find that the people in Mosaic are very open-minded. You can do whatever you choose and not one of the teachers will say you can’t do it because it’s bigger than you. They believe in you and know that high school kids have more potential than what many think.

How We Work

Every successful student in Mosaic does basically the same thing as every other student each day. We’re all working on our projects; researching, learning, designing, pitching ideas, sharing, competing, working with community members, etc. The difference is, is that we’re all working on something different. Each students project is completely unique from what the student next to them is doing. That’s what makes us unlike the rest of our school. We’re all doing the same thing but we’re finding special, extraordinary ways to do so. Everyday doesn’t look exactly the same but fundamentally we are doing the same thing. Every student is doing something they love to do or figuring out what they love.

People with great passion can make the impossible happen

What am I Doing and Learning?

I am simply doing what I love. Ever since the beginning of high school I have done what brings me joy and the learning part comes in through the projects I work on. It's never my goal to start a project because I need a certain credit. I do a project because I want to and it means something to me.
